Borno State Government Launches Final Phase of Teacher Training to Boost Educational Standards

…Qualified Teachers to be Upgraded to Appropriate Grade Levels

In a significant step towards enhancing educational quality in Borno State, the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation has officially unveiled the last phase of its special teacher training initiative in Waka-Biu. The program aims to improve teaching and learning outcomes by training 1,106 teachers from seven Local Government Education Areas (LGEAs) in Southern Borno. This latest phase comes after the successful training of 7,415 teachers in four prior phases, representing an impressive investment of N1.7 billion into the state’s educational transformation.

The newly launched training program not only provides teachers with essential skills but also includes financial support, offering each trainee N30,000 in allowances throughout their training. Upon completion, teachers will see their hard work rewarded with an upgraded salary structure, with over N1 billion allocated for the monthly salaries of qualified educators, who will automatically be placed at their designated grade levels.

Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, the Honorable Commissioner for Education, underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to improving educational infrastructure and facilities. He also announced the introduction of a minimum wage of N70,000 for teachers, highlighting the government’s dedication to supporting its educators.

During the launch event, notable figures including Dr. Gambo Saljaba, Provost of the College, and the Permanent Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), urged the trainees to maintain punctuality and dedication throughout the program. They emphasized the importance of the knowledge gained during training and its potential impact on the educational landscape of Borno State.

Additionally, Hon. Alh. Suleh Ali Yimi, Executive Chairman of Biu, along with other dignitaries, including the Emir of Biu, HRH Alhaji Mustapha Umar Mustapha Aliyu II, expressed their gratitude for the substantial investment in the state’s education sector, acknowledging the positive changes it will bring to the community.

The event culminated in the presentation of a symbolic cheque for N242,220,000, donated through the AGILE project to further support the training efforts. The trainees, represented by Muazu Bello, committed.
