Borno: Zulum reacts to destruction of Sheriff’s Campaign posters, warns trouble makers in his cabinet
The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has threatened to sack any member of his cabinet who are instigating trouble among political stakeholders in Borno state.
NEWSng learnt that Zulum who was not pleased by actions of some of his commissioners who allegedly commission some youths to destroy the campaign posters of Sen Ali Modu Sheriff, who is aspiring for the National Chairmanship mounted at strategic positions within the Maiduguri metropolis warns that such act will not be tolerated by his administration..
The governor gave the warning after receiving reports that bill boards belonging to the former governor Senator Ali Sheriff announcing his intention to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) at the forthcoming National Convention were destroyed by a serving Commissioner just days after Professor Zulum had banned all political thuggery in the state.
Reports said sources close to the governor indicate that Professor Zulum was furious over the incident and threatened to sack the Commissioner in question should such an act repeat itself.
The commissioner in question was said to have committed several atrocities and human rights abuses in the past in the name of the party without approval or knowledge of the powers that be.
At the recently concluded State party congress, the APC in Borno was seen be more united than ever as it adopted the option of consensus as against elections only for the Commissioner to turn around and begin to do acts inimical to the unity of the party by attacking and destroying billboards belonging to one of the founding fathers on the party in the state.
Political observers in the state are now watching what becomes of the Commissioner because everyone in Borno knows that the governor is a strict disciplinarian and will not tolerate anything that will bring disaffection among party members.
Speaking to a party stalwart in the state who did not want his name mentioned told NEWSng that governor Zulum is not interested in politics of hatred.

“Some politicians in the state want to see that the party continues to have opposition from within. But all that the governor wants is to see unity among members, especially among decision makers in the party. If some commissioner paid youths to destroy Modu Sheriff’s campaign posters, they are not doing that to Sheriff but the party because such an act can cause damage to the party if Modu Sheriff decides to fight back and that is what the governor also wants to avoid. “
He said quarrel among politicians is understandable but the length at which some politicians want to take their hatred or political misunderstanding if not checked will cause the state a lot especially now that the state is struggling to come out of the 12 years of insurgency.
“We know those behind the acts and the governor knows them. He had warned them and they know how serious this is. I believe they would advise themselves because governor Zulum did not want to put himself in their kind of politics. He wants everyone to know that Borno state is for all of us, as such we should all embrace politics without bitterness.” He said.
