Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum has approved the redeployment of the Commissioner for works, Architect Yerima Saleh to the Ministry of Environment.

A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Usman Jidda states that Yerima should hand over the affairs of the ministry to the permanent secretary.

The Governor has equally approved the appointment of Arc Isa Haladu as commissioner designates pending approval by the house of Assembly.

The new works Commissioner holds a master’s Degree in architecture from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

He is a registered member architect’s registration council of Nigeria and fellow of the Nigerian institute of architects.

The ministry of environment has been without a Commissioner since the hard working Juliana Bitrus, a professional nurse and public health official, was directed to take charge in the ministry of health which was managed by Dr Kwaya Bura before he was dropped.

To avoid a desperate lacuna in a sensitive ministry like environment where the last commissioner after juli Modu Lawan was shipped out, the Commissioner of justice barrister Kaka Shehu was asked to add an additional portfolio by taking over the Environment ministry.

Zulum urged Architect Yerima Saleh to sustain the tempo he has set in the works ministry by ensuring that his new ministry Environment is moved to the next level in terms of development.

Architect Yerima has been responsible for the fixing of many urban and rural roads in the state in the last two years especially in dangerous areas where his staff had to handle it through direct labor.

The Maiduguri environment is one of the worst in terms of flooding during the rains which is why one of his primary challenges would be to adjust or design the greater Maiduguri master plan and ensure that residents do not suffer from annual floods as is usually the norm once it starts to rain.

Meanwhile no word has been heard yet from his staff who were abducted while working on the Damboa Chibok road recently.
