Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has directed the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, to allocate shops to the victims of the Damaturu phone market fire inferno at the newly constructed Ibrahim Geidam modern market in Damaturu.

The governor also directed the state Ministry of Housing to evaluate the level of damage with a view to reconstructing the affected structures for the owners; in addition, he also donated the sum of $100 million to the victims.

Buni revealed this through his Director-General on Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, when the governor visited the scene of the inferno to commiserate with the victims.

He described the fire disaster as very unfortunate and a great loss to the individual victims and the state.

“The government will continue to assist you in recovering your business to generate more employment opportunities for our youths.” Buni assured.

“It is most unfortunate that this disaster is happening now when our youth are trying to build their business ventures.

The governor called on the people to be vigilant and take proactive measures against possible causes of the disaster, both at home and on business premises.

About 33 shops belonging to 157 shop owners and dependents at the Damaturu GSM market were gutted by an early morning fire.
