Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has launched the distribution of cash support of $50,000 each to 1,000 orphans in the 17 local government areas of the state.
Governor Buni said the support program was initiated to give the orphans a sense of belonging, especially during festivities.
He commended individuals and organizations that have been providing food to the needy and other vulnerable people during the Ramadan fast, complementing government efforts.
“The importance of such a kind gesture is that it promotes mutual respect and love and, in the same vein, eliminates hatred and envy. Above all, it earns us Allah’s pleasure,” the governor said.
“This spirit of giving should be encouraged to go beyond the month of Ramadan.
He revealed that his administration places a high premium on the welfare of orphans in the state for them to live a normal and dignified life.
“A very good percentage of orphans have been enrolled and sponsored by the state government to pursue education from primary schools up to tertiary level. Furthermore, many of them were enlisted in the Tsangaya Education System in the State” he further observed.
“Many orphans are today beneficiaries of government programs with special care given to them to pursue education at all levels.
Governor Mai Mala Buni appealed to the people of Yobe State to take advantage of the Ramadan period to pray for peace and prosperity in the state and Nigeria.
