Husaini Mohammed Isah, spokesman, Bashir Machina Campaign Organisation on Thursday said the attention of the organization has been drawn to some media reports of a purported letter written by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to INEC seeking arbitrary substitution of the name of Yobe North APC senatorial candidate, Bashir Sheriff Machina and replacing it with Ahmad Lawan whose name was not even on the ballot during the senatorial primary poll that took place on the 28th of May 2022.
Isah said, while the organization wants to believe that the Party will not swoop that low especially as a responsible organization that knows all the provisions of the law, it is therefore not out of place to respond to this story that has gone viral.
“The story alleged that APC jettisoned all the provisions of the law particularly section 31 of the 2022 Electoral Act which stipulates that the only way one can be substituted is by voluntary withdrawal or death of the flag bearer.
“APC deliberately relied on a mere clause of the Party which is in conflict with the provisions of the law to justify its futile action.

“While it is obvious that the Party was misled, it is however pertinent to state that Bashir Machina never filled the forrm in question attached to the nomination forms and which the APC mistakenly relied upon to forcefully takeover the ticket from the rightful owner.” He said.
According to him, the campaign organisation wants to make it crystically clear that neither the candidate, Bashir Machina nor any of his representatives was contacted before the party reached such unconstitutional decision.
“We call on the Independent National Electoral Commission to do the right thing by rejecting this illegal action which contradicts the laws governing electoral matters in Nigeria.” He said
The organization reiterates that Bashir Machina is still the APC senatorial candidate for Yobe North and is not ready to relinquish the mandate given to him by the good people of his senatorial district just to please some individuals who are respirate to mortgage the future of his constituents. This has been duly communicated to both the National Chairman of APC and the National Chairman of INEC.
“We call on all supporters of Bashir Sheriff Machina to remain calm and law abiding as this attempt to get power through the back-door has failed.” The spokesman, Isah said.
