CIVIC partner Borno govt efforts to restore civil authority in 7 councils

A nongovernmental organization, the Center For Civilian In Conflict (CIVIC) has reiterated that its interventions in Borno State have complimented in Borno State government’s effort at the restoration of civil authority and supporting livelihood affected by the 13 years old conflict in the northeast region.
Team Lead CIVIC, Mr Mujidang Sitdang made this known during the launching of a report on civilian protection undertaken by CIVIC in Monguno held in Maiduguri.
The event witnessed the development partners, critical stakeholders, security agencies and the leadership of the host community and deliberated upon the way forward.
Mr Mujidang Sitdang said, ” Center for Civilians in Conflict over the years implemented programmes which supported displaced persons(IDPs) and host community of Monguno to restart their economic activities through the secured environment.
“Although there are positive reports of improvement of security, communities report of attacks in their farmland and on important highways which has impacted on food security and freedom of movement.”
The Director of Communication and Advocacy, CIVIC Mr Udo Jude Ilo stressed that the Centre For Civilians in Conflict had been in the Country since 2016 supporting Civilians affected by Conflict and collaborating with the Military to ensure that casualties were minimised.
Mr Udo Jude added that CIVIC was working in seven (7) local government areas of Borno State and building the capacity of the military on how best to protect civilians as well as the National Human Rights Commission to safeguard the rights of them civilians.
In a Goodwill message, Civil-Military Coordination Advisor UNDP, John Sanderson commended the local population for their resilience throughout the 13 years of insurgency and said UNDP was a partner along with CIVIC by providing infrastructural support to the Police, extended trench lines and building housing units as well as training for the Military and other law enforcement agencies.
Also, Chairman Monguno local government Alhaji Kyari Ibrahim commended CIVIC for all their interventions and appealed to the military to establish a base in the Marari area to help farmers to enhance the safety of returnees to their ancestral homes.
Presenting the report at the event, the Researcher with the Center For Civilians in Conflict, Dr Sarem Ugoh said the activities of CIVIC over the period through programmes implemented and interventions, saying it would form the basis for widening the protection of civilians in Monguno and beyond.
A panel was also set up to hear the response to the report presented at the event to re-establish and strengthen their humanitarian interventions in Borno State.
In her remark, Programme Manager CIVIC, Saratu Joshua Pindar thanked all the Stakeholders, development partners, and Participants for their support and expressed optimism that such collaboration will further facilitate the protection of Civilians in Conflict.
Security forces repel bandits’ attack in Sokoto community

Security forces in Sokoto State have foiled an attempted attack by armed bandits on Mangwarori Kwandawa area of Isa town, Isa Local Government Area of the state.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that
heavily armed bandits invaded the community, shooting sporadically in an attempt to penetrate the town.
According to the sources , troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA army responded swiftly and engaged the bandits in a gun duel that lasted several minutes.
The superior firepower of the security forces forced the attackers to retreat into the nearby forest with gunshot wounds.
The sources added that four civilians sustained minor injuries from stray bullets during the exchange, while no casualties were recorded among security personnel.
Security operatives are currently conducting bush combing operations to trace the fleeing bandits, while adjoining divisions have been placed on alert to block possible escape routes.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, is currently meeting with service chiefs and heads of security and intelligence agencies at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Abuja, following reports of a directive by U.S. President Donald Trump to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria.
A security source told Zagazola Makama that the emergency meeting, which began on Monday afternoon, is aimed at assessing the implications of Trump’s statement accusing the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians from Islamist militant groups.
Trump’s remarks, made late Saturday, alleged that the U.S. military was being prepared to “act in Nigeria to tackle Islamist militancy” a statement that has triggered widespread concern across diplomatic and security circles in Abuja.
According to the source, the NSA convened the session to coordinate a unified national security response and review intelligence assessments on the potential fallout of the U.S. president’s pronouncement.
Zagazola reports that Trump did not specify which killings he was referring to, though claims of a “genocide against Christians” in Nigeria have been circulating in some right-wing U.S. circles in recent months.
However, independent monitoring groups and analysts have noted that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of terrorism and banditry in the country, with no evidence of a targeted campaign against one faith.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to be communicated through official channels from the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Chad closes border with Nigeria amid U.S. invasion rumours

The Government of Chad has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, citing security concerns following reports of alleged U.S. military plans in West Africa.
Military sources in N’Djamena confirmed on Monday that President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ordered a complete military lockdown along the Nigerian border after intelligence suggested that terrorist elements from northern Nigeria were preparing to flee into Chadian territory.
According to the sources, the Chadian army has been placed on full alert, with troops and armoured vehicles deployed across key border corridors linking the two countries.
The president was quoted as warning that “no armed group or foreign force will be allowed to enter Chadian soil under any disguise.”
The move comes amid heightened regional tension and growing speculation over America’s alleged military activities in parts of West Africa.
Security analysts said the closure was a preventive measure aimed at safeguarding Chadian sovereignty and preventing possible infiltration by armed groups exploiting regional instability.
