Clearance Operations: Troops kill 42 terrorists, arrests 41, rescued 93 in two weeks.
A total of 42 criminals terrorizing communities across the northern region of Nigeria were reportedly killed by troops in the last two weeks in the ongoing clearance operations against Boko Haram in the northeast and bandits in the north-central and northwest parts of the country.
This was made known on Friday by Brigadiers General Bernard Onyeuko in Abuja.
According to him, 41 suspects were arrested while the military rescued 93 victims abducted by the criminal elements.
He explained that troops of Operation Hadin Kai killed 16 Boko Haram-ISWAP fighters, arrested 29 and rescued 40 persons in the Northeast operations, which was facilitated by land and air interventions.
“Cumulatively, the operations led to the neutralization of 16 BHT/ISWAPs as well as the arrest of 29 of them, while 40 civilians were rescued. BHT and their families, five female adults and 12 children were arrested at FOB Mayanti and Darajamel on July 15,” he said

General Bernard also said that troops recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun, four AK-47 rifles, 50 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one belt containing 296 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, accessories for making IED among other items.
According to him, during operations in the Northwest and North Central region, troops killed 14 bandits, arrested 24, and rescued 36 victims. Adding that, troops also assisted one of the victims to deliver a baby safely during the encounter.
