The Police in Delta have arrested a Customs officer, Hamza Salisu, in connection with the fatal shooting of an unidentified man believed to be a police officer along the East-West Road in Patani.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on May 2 at about 11:58 p.m.

The police sources said that one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ibrahim Surajo, attached to PMF 51 Oghara and deployed to a stop-and-search point along the East-West Road, reported that he heard gunshots and saw a Toyota RAV4 veer off the road into a ditch near a Customs checkpoint.

ASP Surajo said he rushed to the scene and discovered that the driver of the vehicle believed to be a police officer based on his attire had been fatally shot.

“The identity of the deceased officer is yet to be confirmed, as well as the exact model of the vehicle. The corpse has been evacuated to the Patani General Hospital mortuary for autopsy,” the report said.

The Customs officer alleged to have fired the shot, identified as Hamza Salisu, has been arrested and taken into custody for investigation.

“The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but police personnel in the division have been placed on alert as investigations continue,”said the sources.
