Damaturu Emirate Appoints BioRTC Founder as Shettima Ilumuye

The Emir of Damaturu, His Royal Highness, Alh. (Dr) Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi has appointed the Director and Founder of Biomedical Research Training Center (BioRTC), Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina as the Shettima Ilumuye of Damaturu Emirate.
The appointment was announced today Wednesday 28th August, 2024 by the Waziri of Damaturu, Alh. Maisanda Lawan during a courtesy visit paid on the Emir by the Nigerian Young Academy at his palace in Damaturu.
The Waziri of Damaturu said the Emir made the decision as a result of his passion on education. He added that Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina is offered the appointment based on his track records and his dedication on the development of education in Yobe.
Alh. Lawan said the title as Shettima Ilumuye will serve as the ambassador and adviser on education to the Emir.
While delivering his fatherly advice, the Emir of Damaturu, His Royal Highness, Alh. (Dr) Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi prayed for Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina to continue to be blessed and to excel in all his affairs.
The royal father then thanked the leadership of Nigerian Young Academy for hosting the 14th Conference and General Assembly Meeting in Damaturu, Yobe State.
On his path, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Science, Research and Innovation, Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina who doubled as the founder and Director of BioRTC, expressed that his appointment as Shettima Ilumuye of Damaturu Emirate is the most significant and heartfelt recognition amongst all the awards he has received globally, spanning Africa, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Dr. Maina said he was surprised when the appointment was announced and the distinction holds a special place in his heart because it comes from his local community and Emirate, indicating the value and appreciation of the community in his work and achievements.
Also speaking, the President, Nigerian Young Academy, Dr. Peter Okoli thanked the Emir of Damaturu for the warm reception and hospitality.
Meanwhile, the palace performed cultural display for Kanuri Tradition as a mark of honour to the guests that attended the 14th Conference and General Assembly Meeting of Nigerian Young Academy.
