Former governor of Borno state and APC Vice Presidential Candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima has a good memory of recalling historical facts. Although not a historian, Shettima’s grasping of incidents and events about history makes him unique and likable whenever and whereever he got the opportunity to throw the dice. At the weekend he stormed Jos, the capital of Plateau state in North-central Nigeria not to sell his party for the next election as a politician but to honour a distant relation. As a Kanuri man from Borno state in northeast Nigeria, Shettima captured the historical ties between his people (the Kanuris) and the Mwagavul people in Jos, Plateau state with the accuracy of facts in historical lines.
Shettima, who gave a remark while giving a goodwill message during the coronation and presentation of first class staff of office to Da John Putmang Hirse as the new Mishkaham Mwagavul (Paramount Ruler of the Mwaghavul nation) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State has congratulated the Mishkaham Mwagavul hinting on the long term relationship and adding that the Kanuri people share historical ties with the Mwaghavul people which is well documented and cherished.
He called on all languages that migrated from the Lake Chad basin to do everything within their power and maintain their cordial relationship for their growth and development.“What binds us together is superior to anything. We need to maintain our relationship, we need peace in this country so that we will harness the potentials of our people. We will fight against poverty, unemployment and ensure education for all.” he stressed while blending clan-dish duties and political determination if the APC, which he represents won the next election in 2023.
This he said remains the irreducible decimals if Nigeria and its citizens were to fully harness their potentialities, growth and development. He also affirmed his conviction on the capacity of the APC flag bearer and his Principal, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enable this through a sustained policy of justice and fairness as well as devoted fight against poverty, unemployment and provision of quality education for all. According to Shettima, Nigeria’s unity and peace remain paramount and non negotiable in its quest for greatness.
