Edo deputy governor affirms commitment to rights of women, children, and vulnerable residents

The Edo State deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, on Thursday reaffirmed the Governo Monday Okpebholo-led administration’s commitment to ensuring the rights and dignity of women and children in the state are protected, while securing justice for all Edo residents who are underprivileged and abused.

Idahosa, in a statement endorsed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Friday Aghedo, was quoted to have given the affirmation, when he hosted members of the International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA), Edo State Branch, led by the chairperson, Barr. Princess Francisca Elema, who were on a courtesy visit to the Government House.

According to the deputy governor, the contributions of women and children in driving change and bringing development to any society could not be overemphasised.

“First let me thank you for coming to us today in the form of a courtesy visit. One of the core mandates of this government is fairness, equity and justice.

“The Executive Governor has made it clear on several occasions that this government, every citizen will have access especially as it relates to the rights of women and children.

“You said something very significant. You said the interest on women and children is one of your core mandates. I want to assure you that as a government, we are going to partner with you to protect the rights of women and children”. Idahosa reassured.

The deputy governor, who commended the leadership and members of FIDA for their continued commitment to restoring dignity to Edo residents, especially women and children who lack the requisite resources to drive change, assured the association of the state’s partnership and support in helping the association achieve its goals.

According to him, “We also listened to some of the challenges, I will also discuss that with my principal and in no time, we will definitely revert to you”.

“I am here to also encourage you in the interim, that whatever you are doing to bring peace and stability to our state, and to bring justice to those that will not have even the resources to go to court, we appreciate it”. he further stated.

The deputy governor noted that that was why the state government would partner with the body “to make sure that justice is served to all Edo citizens.”

In her address, the Chairperson of Edo State FIDA, Princess Francisca Elema, expressed the association’s commitment in supporting the Senator Okpebholo-led administration in driving development in the state, and delivering good governance to the doorsteps of Edo citizens and residents.

The deputy governor also played host to the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and Association of Resident Doctors Under Edo State Government Employment (ARD EDGE).
