Education: Professor Daura Supports Physically Challenge, Orphans in Yobe
As part of an effort to support the less privileged in the state the former Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri and the current VC Yobe state University, Prof. Mala M.Daura has waived the burden for payment of tuition fees to all disabled students of the state University in Yobe.
The VC also put orphans of Damagum town who are of school age on free education. These orphans are to receive free uniforms, textbooks, shoes and writing materials in both Western and Islamic education.
Damagum is the headquarters of Fune local government in Yobe state where the VC held from.
In an interview with newsmen, Prof. Daura said he is just trying to give back to the society as charity they said begins at home. Therefore, he was in Damagum to take the first step for the journey of a thousand miles.
According to the Professor, Yobe state is still left lagging behind in education as such the need to begin to look inward. He said while he acknowledged the contributions of others he felt it is the right thing to do especially for the Orphans through his foundation.

“This is an empowerment to assist Orphans and at the same time people living with disabilities. We give them a waiver in the University. And for those who are begging on our streets, we try to reduce begging and roaming on the streets in the state.” He said.
Daura urged people living with disabilities to accept their faith and assured them he will provide the needed tools and equipment to help them in their Educational pursuits and live a respectable life.
Prof Daura came in contact with the disabled students when he took mantle for Leadership while on familiarisation as the Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University after the expiration of his tenure as Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri a couple of years back.
He said since then they have been close to his heart and he had been thinking on how best to help them.
Speaking on Daura’s foundation In an interview with the headmaster of the foundation in Damagum Mallam Dauda Idris Bulama said that due to the large number of out of school children Prof Daura established the school.
He said at present Prof. Daura is sponsoring 30 Orphans out of the pupils’ fresh Orphans awaiting admission.
Ahmad Yau Abdullahi, a 200 level sociology student who also received a waiver , called on people living with disability to take the advantage of free Education in the state to study in Yobe State University.
According to him, “We are giving special assistance in financial, health care, tools and equipment to support our challenges.”
