Farmer killed as herders invade beans farm in Monguno, Borno

A farmer has been killed following an attack by suspected herders who invaded a beans farm in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Saturday when about ten herders allegedly led their cattle to graze on a beans farm at Ngolom bush in Monguno.
The complainant, Abatcha Abatcha of Gana Ali Ward, said that when he and others on the farm confronted the herders and asked them to leave, the herders descended on them with sticks.
He said one of the farmers, identified as Bakulu Bafindi, 30, of Sabon Lamba Ward, Maiduguri, sustained fatal injuries during the attack.
The victim was later evacuated to the General Hospital, Monguno, where he was confirmed dead by a medical officer.
His remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy and later released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, security forces and volunteers have intensified efforts to track down those responsible for the attack.
