FCT: Shop owners cry out over demolition, demand compensation

Shop owners at the Jabi garage in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have decried what they called indiscriminate demolition meted on their shops by the FCDA Task Force.

Some of the shop victims speak with newsmen, seeking full compensation to enable them get back on their businesses.

According to the shop owners, they were not given any prior notice before the demolition, accusing the authorities behind the demolition of depriving them their means of livelihood. They said, “We are law-abiding citizens of this country. We go about our legitimate businesses to put food on our table and to fend for our families without breaking the law or cause anything evil in the society.” We do not have any other source of income.”

They said a one-time FCT Minister had promised to pay them full compensation but did not fulfill the promises, appealing to the present FCT Minister to wade into the matter and give them the due justice.

“We believe that the current FCT Minister is not aware of this situation. They once promised to pay us for the damaged but they never did. This is cheating and it is quite unfortunate. Something has to be done.” They, therefore, appealed the government, stakeholders and well-meaning Nigerians to rise up and ensure that their members get full compensations.
