Fire Outbreak Destroys Over 80 Huts in Monguno IDP Camp

Two separate fire incidents occurred in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday, destroying over 80 makeshift shelters at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp and 15 houses in Gana Ali Ward.

The first fire broke out around 2:58 p.m. in Gana Ali Ward, while the second incident occurred at 3:10 p.m. in the Government Girls Secondary School IDP Camp. The infernos destroyed food items, household belongings, and other valuables.

No casualties were recorded in both incidents, and police patrol teams were deployed for crowd control and to prevent looting. The fires were eventually extinguished through joint efforts by security personnel and state firefighters.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fires and assessing the extent of the damage.
