The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of eight persons, including five Community Protection Guard (CPG) members and three farmers, in separate bandit attacks in Maru and Talata Mafara Local Government Areas.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the first incident occurred on June 10 at about 11:00 a.m., when armed bandits attacked CPG operatives providing security on the farmlands of one Alhaji Kabiru Maikatifu, located at the outskirts of Dankurmi in Maru LGA.
“Three CPG members were killed during the attack, and their firearms were carted away by the bandits,” source said.
The source added that the bandits returned the following day, June 11, to the same farmlands and killed two more CPG operatives, also seizing their weapons.
Again on June 11 at about 11:15 a.m., armed bandits invaded Bobo village via Gwaram in the Jangebe District.
The assailants opened fire on farmers working on their farmlands, killing three people instantly. Their corpses were later recovered and handed over to family members for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Troops have intensified onslaught against the attackers.
