Five terrorists killed as Military arrests soldier in connection to NDA attack

Troops on Sunday foiled an attempt by the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) to attack a military convoy along Maiduguri, Damaturu road.

Sources said the convoy was moving military equipment to stock the northern part of Borno state where troops are fighting ISWAP elements occupying Malum Fatori and part of Sambisa forest in the northeast operations.

The source said troops also killed terrorists in another attempt to abduct travelers between Maiduguri, Damaturu road.

It was also gathered that the intelligence services had alerted troops on the plan by terrorists to stage the attack, after intercepting their communication.

Another source confirmed that the convoy was heavily protected and reached its destination safely. The armed terrorists had stormed the Tamsukawu community in Kaga local government with the intention to attack a military convoy on a special mission/movement.

“Unfortunately for them, a signal was received on the movements of terrorists from various directions for the attack. The troops’ movement was well fortified with adequate security and air cover from the air task force. The movement was very successful even with some confrontation which we tackled.” He said

Meanwhile, the troops were also mobilised to deal with another remnant of ISWAP fighters who attempted to attack and abduct travelers at Tamsukawu community

Sources said while on attack operation, one of the military tanks fell into a ditch and caught fire as a result of mechanical faults.

“The troops and the terrorists engaged in a heavy gun battle before they were subdued. At least five terrorists were killed during the operation. “he said

In another development a military personnel, identified as Sgt. Torsabo Solomon of 153 BSG (AIRFORCE COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL YOLA) was arrested on the order of the Base Commandant following a request by the NDA Commandant.

He was suspected to be in connection with selling arms/ammo to criminals. He was also suspected to be in connection with an attack at the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA in Kaduna state.

Upon his arrest, a military aircraft,  ATR with Reg No NAF 930 arrived at the flight line to convey the suspect from Yola to NDA KADUNA for further investigation.
