Flood: Yobe government move to establish early warning system at LGA levels

The Yobe state government on Monday said it would establish a Local Government Emergency Management Committee (LGEMC) for early warning of disasters following flood ravaging communities in the state.

Governor Mai Mala Buni disclosed this when he paid a working visit to NEMA Headquarters, saying that the LGEMCs are to provide first support to victims of disaster at the grassroots before support comes from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA)

In a Press Release issue and signed by the Director General Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed said these committees would serve as first aid to victims of disaster across the state.

According to him, the local committees would be adequately equipped to function efficiently.

The Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mustapha Habib Ahmed commended the Yobe state government for the initiative.

Mustapha Habib said the initiative will provide fast and efficient support to disaster victims.

“Yobe state has been a leading role model in disaster management providing efficient support to victims.” he added.

The Director General decorated Governor Mai Mala Buni as NEMA Ambassador on Disaster Management.

The Governor was accompanied to NEMA by the Hon Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Mustapha Musa, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Yusuf and Chairman Potiskum Local Government Council, Alhaji Salisu Muktari.
