Formation of Vigilante groups, a clear indication of government failure – KACRAN

Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has condemned activities of bandits and vigilante groups in the country.

In a Press Statement issued and signed by its National President, Hon. Khalil Mohammed Bello which is made available to newsmen in Damaturu, KACRAN said it will do everything humanly possible to make sure that peace and harmony is fully restored in the entire country more especially between the twin brothers Herders and Farmers who were and still are partners in progress.

“We are of the view that it is not the responsibility of vigilantes to preserve lives and properties of their people. But this is the number one responsibility of our governments both at the Federal, State and Local Government levels to protect lives and properties of all Nigerians and registered foreigners living in the country regardless of religion, tribe, geographical location or political inclination.” 

According to the statement, establishment and unlawful formation of vigilantes in the country is a clear testimony that the government is but very sadly admitting its total failure to execute one of its paramount responsibilities for which it was formed.

“More so, vigilantes are the ones who are fueling or adding salt to injury as per the development of banditry activities in the area under reference is concern. Because they are the people who are killing innocent herders in the name of taking revenge against any attack that was said to be carried out in their villages by bandits.” KACRAN observed

The statement further revealed that, on the part of the armed bandit, KACRAN sees no reason why people will arm themselves for whatever reason in the name of defending their people since this is not a stateless society whereby people will be arming themselves to defend their clans.

“The banditry activity is more dangerous to their people and other law abiding Nigerians than being good or helpful to them because in the process of taken revenge against the wrongful/ unlawful activities of vigilantes meted against their people they always end in attacking and killing innocent people in their villages, towns or cities or on the highway.

“KACRAN is of the strong opinion that all bandits and vigilantes are the product of the same process that is terrorism, adding that our peace loving association viewed both vigilantes and bandits as great enemies of the nation whose activities must be brought to an end.

“Against all, we of KACRAN reject vigilantism and banditry of all sort for the fact that the strongly believe, if people are allowed barbarically use arm in the name of self-defense the entire country will be doom or plunge into lawlessness and anarchism where by killing, kidnapping, attacking and other vices will be the order of the day.” The statement said
