Former NARTO chairman urges government on price control

Former Chairman of National Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Potiskum local government area, Gadodomasun Fika, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Alele, has urged the federal government to intervene to monitor the activities of businesses and introduce price control in the country.

Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Alele disclosed this today to newsmen while reacting to the just-concluded peaceful protest undertaken by Nigerians on the cost of living. He said that after the protests, the price of goods skyrocketed in the market.

“If there is no price control in this country, mass will continue to suffer, because even when the NLC embarks on a strike in Nigeria, the price of essential commodities will skyrocket, and even after they call off the strike, the price will not come down” Alele said.

Alele revealed that Nigerians embarked on a peaceful protest to show their concerns about the hardship, hunger, insecurity, and other important issues that affected the country. We thank God. In other places, the protest was done peacefully, but in other places, looters, hoodlums, and criminals come in and destroy government and private properties.

He said that any responsible person in this country didn’t feel happy about what was happening. In fact,  in Nigeria, the masses have been pushed to the wall; many people can’t eat three or two times a day, and even others sleep without eating anything because of poverty.

“As we are living in the local government area, we are close to the masses. We are hiring there complains, people are crying, and all this happened as a result of the removal of the fuel subsidy” Alele said.

Gadodomasu further said that before the protest, a liter of fuel was sold for 700 to 800 Naira, but after the protest, now a litter of fuel is sold for $900, and also all the prices of essential commodities in the market have gone up.

He said that any country in the world develops with tax; therefore, we want the government to allow us to pay our tax to build our country. We didn’t say the government should remove the subsidy completely, but reduce the subsidy.
End.
