Former Senate President Lawan mourns Mailafiya

President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, PhD., GCON, Sardaunan Bade. Yobe North Senatorial District mourns the death of his former Special Assistant, Auwal Mailafiya, while he was the President of the 9th Senate between 2019 and 2023.

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Auwal Mailafiya, who served as one of my special assistants while I held sway as president of the 9th senate between 2019 and 2023.” Senator Lawan said.

He said Auwal, who hails from the Gulani local government area in Yobe East Senatorial District, was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano after he suddenly became ill while on his way to Abuja from Damaturu on Sunday. He later died while receiving medical attention at the hospital for an undisclosed ailment.

Auwal Mailafiya will be buried tomorrow, April 1, 2024, in Damaturu, according to Islamic rites.

Auwal was truly a remarkable individual who will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, and commitment to making a difference. His presence will be greatly missed, but he will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May we find strength and solace in the memories he shared with us.

It is my fervent prayer that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatur Fidaus.

Ifelodun LG imposes 24 hour curfew across Oro-Ago District for clearance operation

A 24 hour curfew has been imposed on the entire Oro- ago District of Ifelodun council Area, Chairman Abdulrasheed Yusuf said in a statement recently.

The curfew which took effect from 6 am on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, was imposed in a coordinated effort by the council in conjunction with security agencies to put terrorists in disarray, take them out by combing the area and protecting lives and property of residents.

The statement signed by Abdulquadri Jimba who is the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Ifelodun council area noted that “Within this period, there will be no human or vehicular traffic in the entire district.

“This is in support of the ongoing security clearance operation in the area. Further reviews of this measure will be communicated,” the statement noted.
