Foundation Trains 80 Borno Youth Groups On GBV Awareness, Prevention

The Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development has organised a one-day sensitisation workshop for 80 youth groups on gender based violence, human rights violations awareness and preventive measures.

Participants of the workshop which was held yesterday in Maiduguri include victims of gender based violence; Boko Haram survivors, representatives of religious bodies, traditional rulers, members of the civil society, human rights activists among others.

Speaking during the workshop with the theme: ” Tracing the Root Causes and Standing against Gender Based Violence ( GBV ) “, in commemoration of the 16 days of activism, the Executive Director Allamin Foundation, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, said the foundation decided to gather the participants which include the vulnerables and victims of insurgency to equip them with the knowledge of gender-based violence and its preventive measures, as well as educating them on dangers of social vices such as drug abuse, restiveness among others.

Hajiya Allamin, said this initiative is focused on raising awareness against human rights violations and gender-based violence, which mostly affects women and girls in the society.

Speaking on religious perspective on sexual based violence and human rights , Sheikh Ali Mustapha, a prominent Islamic scholar , exposed the critical role of peace and unity in societal development.

He condemned human rights abuses, sexual violence, and other forms of injustice, emphasising divine disapproval of such actions and the severe consequences awaiting perpetrators.

He further urged participants to avoid societal vices like drug abuse, gossiping, and blackmail, attributing these to ignorance, illiteracy, and bias.

On psycho-social support and counselling of victims of violence, Apostle Joshua Michael, Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Borno State, took participants on the themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and reintegration.

He lauded the foundation’s dedication to fostering gender equality, human rights, and inclusiveness.

Social Mobilisation Consultant Comrade Zanna Shettima, on human rights violations and effects on the larger society, shedded light on the destructive impact of sexual violence and human rights abuses on women and girls. He called for patience, resilience, and a collective stand against such atrocities.

Comrade Lucy Dlama Yunana, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Zulum on Women Affairs, while speaking on addressing gender-based violence and promoting gender equality, emphasised on the dire consequences of gender-based violence and the necessity of safeguarding the rights of women and girls.
