At least four people were killed and three others injured when armed bandits attacked Baidi village, a remote hamlet in Tangaza Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State, sources confirmed.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Thursday , when a large group of Lakurwa bandits, reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the village, located along the border with the Niger Republic. Communication blackout in the area delayed immediate reporting of the attack.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, Police units and the Sokoto Community Guard Corps were mobilized to the scene. The bodies and injured victims were evacuated to a hospital for autopsy and medical treatment.
Security forces are currently combing the area to track and apprehend the perpetrators, while confidence-building patrols continue to reassure residents and prevent further attacks.

An Indian expatriate, Renjith Pillai, 42, has been rescued unharmed after being kidnapped at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin Village, Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, Oyo State, police sources confirmed.
The victim, whose abduction was first reported on Jan. 17, 2026, regained his freedom on Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m., according to a report from the Commander of Idi-Ayunre division.
He was reunited with his family following his release.
Police said a joint team of the police and strategic partners is currently pursuing the kidnappers, who remain at large.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

Three vigilante members have been fatally shot during an attack by suspected armed bandits at Kauran Pawa Mahuta C Village in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at about 12:24 a.m. when the assailants invaded the community. Joint patrol teams comprising the police, military, and C-Watch engaged the bandits in a sustained gunfight, forcing them to flee.
The victims, identified as Yahaya Saadu, 37; Yahaya Yahaya, 33; and Mika Musa, 43, all residents of Mahuta C Village, were immediately taken to the General Hospital, Dandume, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Authorities have assured that efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the perpetrators, while the joint security teams continue to patrol the area to prevent further attacks.

Combined troops of 8 Division Garrison Strike Force and the Department of State Services have neutralized a terrorist cell in Sokoto State and recovered six AK-47 rifles in a decisive counter-terrorism operation.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists were intercepted in transit to Gundumi Village in Isa Local Government Area to carry out an attack on civilians. Acting on credible intelligence gathered through weeks of surveillance, troops tactically positioned themselves near the village and engaged the insurgents, who were traveling on motorbikes from a nearby forest.
One terrorist was neutralized during the encounter, while others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds, abandoning their mission.

The source said a subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of six AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, and 18 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
He added that troops have intensified patrols and maintained a strong presence in the area to prevent further threats.

“This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property, reinforcing public confidence in the security forces’ ability to combat terrorism and maintain peace,” the source said.
