Four police officers killed in ambush by suspected herdsmen in Benue

Atleast four mobile police officers attached to the 12 Police Mobile Force (PMF) unit were killed following an ambush by suspected armed herdsmen in Udei village, Guma Local Government Area.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the officers were on special duty when they came under heavy fire on June 29 while responding to a distress call.
The sources said that the officers were alerted around 2:00 p.m. that a large group of armed men, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, were advancing toward Udei village with a herd of cattle.
“The attackers had approached the vicinity of the primary school in Udei, which serves as a base for the deployed PMF 12 personnel. As the officers moved to intercept them, they were ambushed and attacked with heavy gunfire,” the report stated.
Four officers tragically lost their lives in the attack, and their service weapons were reportedly carted away by the assailants. The deceased officers were identified as: Insp. Samuel Bisalla, Insp. Emmanuel Bitrus, Insp. John Sunday and Insp. Kenneth Gabriel
Two other personnel, ASP Jacob Elisha and Insp. Zakari Bangajiya sustained injuries and was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, for medical attention. They are said to be responding to treatment after suffering from exhaustion and shock.
The corpses of the fallen officers have been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and medical examination.
In response to the attack, special tactical units and a reinforced team equipped with an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) have been deployed to Udei and the Daudu Divisional Headquarters to forestall further incidents and restore calm in the area.

Army troops thwarted attack by bandits in Qua’an Pan, Plateau, recover AK-47 after gun battle

Troops of Sector 9, Operation Safe Haven, on Saturday engaged suspected bandits in Kedeshi Village, Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, and recovered an AK-47 rifle with ammunition.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops, deployed at Teng Village under Sub-Sector 9.2, acted on credible intelligence about suspicious movements around Kedeshi Village.
A patrol team was immediately mobilised to the area.
According to the sources, the troops made contact with the suspected bandits, who fled into the surrounding forest on sighting the patrol.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with a magazine and 10 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The sources added that troops have sustained aggressive clearance operations in the area to flush out bandits believed to be hibernating within the joint operations area.

Bandits abduct another four occupants of charcoal-laden vehicle in Kajuru LGA in Kaduna

Four occupants of a vehicle transporting charcoal were kidnapped by armed bandits along Maidoro junction in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the vehicle, a J5 Boxer with registration number DKA 680 ZY, was reportedly intercepted while traveling from Maro village to Kasuwan Magani.
The bandits abducted the four occupants Danlami Jika, Balale Ali, Abubakar Ali and Pat Buzaye and whisked them to an unknown location.
Security sources efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the victims.

Fulani man ambushed and killed by Tiv militia in Benue

A Fulani elder, Yahaya Dosu, from Awe, was ambushed and killed by suspected Tiv militia while returning from herding his cattle in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred on Friday at Bakin Bada, when Dosu was riding his motorcycle.
The sources said that the victim was initially shot in the elbow, forcing him to attempt an escape on foot, but his assailants pursued him and fatally shot him in the head. His motorcycle and all personal belongings were reportedly taken by the attackers.
Sources identified the alleged leader of the militia as Alhaji Sarduana Ba’aju, a resident of Kange town, Gidan Umana.
Intelligence indicated that Dosu’s cattle, which had been kept in Kange for less than five days, may have been part of the motive for the attack.
Residents of the area described the deceased as a respected Fulani elder and called on authorities to investigate the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
