FRSC begins special patrol “Operation flush” in FCT
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has declared Friday, Saturday and Sunday of every week for a special patrol tagged “Operation Flush” to curb road crashes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Sector Commander, FCT command, Mr Oga Ochi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
Ochi recalled that the Special Patrol Operation during the last Sallah was done with mass deployment of personnel adding that it led to the success rate recorded during the period.
He said that the operation led to the reduction of road traffic crashes within FCT and also across the whole country, hence the sustainability of more special operations.
Ochi said that the “Operation flush” was set to deal with any form of influence such as intake of alcohol or drugs that could lead to road traffic crashes in the territory.
He said that random tests would be done on these three days of every week to ensure that people who were involved in any form of influence of alcohol or drugs were detected.
According to him, appropriate actions and sanctions are taken after detecting such.
“The reason those three days had been assigned for the duty is that we noticed that the number of crashes recorded at the FCT over the weekend outnumber that of the remaining part of the week.
“We also realised that the number of crashes during the weekend is higher probably because people that go to clubs on Friday against Saturday and then Sunday coming back at the late hours and must have been drunk.
“We believe they get Involved in crashes due to the influence of alcohol or drugs. As a way of checking that, we now introduced the special patrol operation throughout the weekend.
“And the operation aim at reducing people that drive under the influence so that there won’t be crashes and we also check the rate of crashes within the FCT, ” he said.
Ochi assured that the Command would continue to work with sister agencies, host communities and transport unions to address issues around road traffic crashes.

Troops of the 4 Demonstration Battalion have commenced close monitoring of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) participating in their annual religious procession along the Kano–Zaria highway in Kaduna State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that at about 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 2, personnel observed a large group of IMN members moving along the Kano–Kaduna Expressway within Makarfi Local Government Area, heading towards Zaria.
According to the sources, about 1,000 participants were seen trekking on the left side of the highway while carrying their personal luggage.
The annual procession is expected to continue until Aug. 9, with security agencies maintaining surveillance and deploying personnel along the route to ensure public safety, facilitate traffic management and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
As of the time of filing this report, the procession was progressing peacefully without any reported security incident.

Troops Foil Cattle Rustling, Recover 22 Cattle in Kaduna

Troops of the 1 Division Nigerian Army have foiled a cattle rustling operation and recovered 22 stolen cattle during a swift response to an attack in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 1:08 a.m. on July 31 after troops received a distress call over cattle rustling at Sullubawa Village.
The sources said the troops tracked the fleeing rustlers and intercepted them at Rahama, where they engaged the suspects in a firefight.
Overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, the rustlers fled the scene, abandoning the stolen livestock.
The 22 recovered cattle were subsequently identified and handed over to their rightful owners.
Military authorities said troops have continued to sustain aggressive patrols and rapid-response operations across vulnerable communities to curb cattle rustling and other forms of criminality in the area.

Troops Discover, Destroy Two Improvised Explosive Devices Along Gwoza–Wala Road

Troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison have discovered and safely destroyed two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted along the Gwoza–Wala Road in Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the explosives were detected at about 8:50 a.m. on Aug. 2 during routine operations between Golf Bravo and Papa 2 locations along the road.
The sources said the troops immediately secured the area before an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was deployed to the scene.
The EOD specialists successfully recovered and carried out a controlled in-situ detonation of the two IEDs, eliminating the threat without any casualties or damage.
Military sources said the operation prevented a potential attack on security personnel and civilian road users, noting that clearance and route-sanitisation operations remain ongoing across the North-East to deny terrorists the ability to emplace explosive devices on major supply routes.
