GALE OF DISQUALIFICATIONS IN APC AS SECURITY REPORTS INDICT ASPIRANTS

Many of the aspirants seeking elective offices under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in next year’s elections risk being disqualified over security reports indicting them, on procedural errors and sundry offences, which fail short of party expectations.

Investigations reveal that, in it’s quest to field candidates who have no blemish whatsoever in their records, conducts and even sources of finances, the ruling All Progressives Congress,  APC may have subjected all aspirants to secret vetting and the results were damning.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that there may be gale of disqualifications of candidates, going by the results of the screening conducted for aspirants, even as security reports may have found many aspirants wanting.

Our correspondent found out that many aspirants may be in for surprises as the screening panels received damning security findings, over their credentials and conducts, which negate party expectations from aspirants.

Already some aspirants have developed cold feet and are threatening to petition the appeal panel,  when they got wind of likely the  outcome of their screening, going by the line of questioning during the screening.

While most aspirants were asked very few questions, indicating that the panels will rely on security findings or petitions against their aspirations, some others were thoroughly grilled to extract more information on their activities.

Although there are windows for redress after the publication of the list of cleared aspirants, National Trail findings reveal that, appeals after the screening may make little or no difference.

According to our findings, the delays in commencing the screening was necessitated by the need for the various screening panels  to study security  submissions on some candidates and to verify claims made by petitioners on the suitability of some aspirants to become standard bearers of the party in the elections.

One of the Senatorial aspirants, (name withheld),who may have sensed his own disqualifications has been crying blue murder, and threatening to fight his disqualification.

In a message sent to a public forum, the aspirant complained of the delays and   procedures for the screening, as he perceives possible disqualification,

Another aspirant who spoke to our correspondent was infuriated and has already reached out to opposition parties for possible switchover to another political party. 

Attempts to verify the reported disqualifications did not yield results as no party official could volunteer information, until the various screening panels submit reports.

Our correspondent however reports that, the APC decided to subject all aspirants to thorough vetting in order to avoid past mistakes by fielding candidates with questionable conducts or credentials, only for such candidates to be removed by tribunals or the courts.

As the waiting game continues ahead if the formal release of the results of the screening, tension remains high in various political camps, the outcome of which we may define the party’s outing
