Geidam By-election: Yobe SIEC fix poll for October

Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has fixed 30th October 2021 for two councillors by-elections in Ashekri and Hausari wards of Geidam local government area of Yobe State.

The Chairman of the Commission, Dr Mamman Mohammed disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting held in Damaturu.

He recalled that on the Twenty seventh of February 2021, the commission conducted elections into seventeen local governments, one hundred and seventy-eight electoral wards in the state.

“On Friday, 4th June 2021, a sad report for the death of two honourable councillors, Hassan Bukar Mairami representing Ashekri ward and Yusuf Mustapha representing Hausari ward all in Geidam local government area come to us.”

”The death according to the report was a result of a ghastly motor accident along Bayamari to Damaturu road. May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace, Amin. This act has therefore created a gap in Geidam local government council and this gap can only be filled by democratically elected persons.

He said ”the government of Yobe State under the leadership of Mai Mala Buni directed us to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacuum.

“It is my hope therefore that all players most especially the political parties will follow the rules of the game and also solicit for your support to the success of this election.” He added.
