The Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic, Monguno were in Maiduguri on Wednesday to convey profound gratitude to the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for supporting the polytechnic with N100m take-off grant which combined operational cost and provision of temporary campus.
The Council’s Chairman, Dr. Umar Tambari said the support enabled the Polytechnic to commence operation, for which Zulum will forever remain part of the school’s founding history.
The Chairman led members that included Hajiya Maryam Gwale, Dr. Umar Bukar, Mr. Charles Okonkwo, and the Polytechnic’s Rector, Professor Garba Mohammed Ngala.
Zulum thanked the Council members for the visit and told them of some collaborative efforts between Borno State and the Federal Government towards providing more support for the Polytechnic to enable it to stabilize. He was in company of the SSG, Usman Jidda Shuwa, Chief of Staff, Prof. Isa Marte Hussaini, and Commissioner for Education, Engr. Abba Wakilbe.

The Governor, who is a former Polytechnic Rector, reaffirmed his commitment towards ensuring the stability of the Federal Polytechnic in Monguno.
It would be recalled that in January 2021, the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, conveyed President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval for the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Monguno, northern part of Borno State.
Zulum swiftly led a strong delegation to the Minister on a thank you visit, given the fact that Borno had since 1976 been one of the few states without Federal Polytechnic and Federal College of Education. Majority of Nigeria’s 36 States have both Federal Universities, while Borno only has the University of Maiduguri which is a Federal tertiary institution.
With Buhari’s approval, Zulum in June 2021, announced N100m as take-off intervention for the Polytechnic, with the allocation of a temporary campus for commencement of operations.
