Governor Mai Mala Buni CON of Yobe State has revealed that it is imminent for all stakeholders, including the government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, parents, and guardians, to join hands with the security agencies in the war against illicit substances and drugs.
The governor disclosed this yesterday while launching the Ethical Reorientation Campaign, tagged operation “Gyaran Hali” at the cultural center in Damaturu.
He said that traditionally, since the days of the old Kamen Bornu Empire and with the influence of Islam, our societies and communities were reputable in honesty, faithfulness, and integrity, among others.
“These moral virtues continue to degenerate over time. We must wake up to reclaim these expensive characters we were known for.
According to Governor Buni, this event is indeed timely, considering the decay and rot in moral values and the decadence in cultural and religious ethics in society, especially among the youth.
He maintained that the increasing consumption of illicit substances, especially drugs, is quite worrisome and calls for immediate and strategic action to stem the growing tide to save our communities, state, and country.
Governor Buni revealed that most crimes are tied to drug consultants; therefore, parents should expose their wards engaged in drug-related activities rather than shield them for us to have a sane and productive youth and future.
“As custodians of tradition and moral values, the traditional institutions are here to intensify sensitization programs and the government’s renewed war against drug-related offenses.
The governor calls on the security chiefs to do a thorough in-house cleaning to ensure that, while your men are actively engaged in the new war against drugs, the program is not sabotaged by a few suspicious characters.
He pointed out that we read reports from some parts of the country of some misguided security operatives arrested for trafficking or the sale of drugs. Ours here should be different, exemplary, and good ambassadors of your noble profession.
Buni directs security operatives to arrest anyone involved in the trafficking, trading, and consumption of all prohibited substances and drugs. There should be no sacred cows.
