Governor Buni flag off construction of 34km road in Yobe

Yobe State Governor, Hon.Mai Mala Buni has flag-off the construction of 34 kilometers road from Jajere to Danchuwa, saying he is fulfilling his pledge to the people of Jajere and other benefitting communities.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Buni revealed that the Jajere to Danchuwa road has been on the drawing board since 1999 and various attempts has been made by previous administration to construct the road but could not be executed because of various challenges.

He said, when completed would unveil and harness the rich agricultural, livestock and other potential that abound in this area as well as improve socio economic life in these communities.

Governor Mai Mala Buni further said, the 34 kilometers road project was awarded to Qumecs Nigeria Limited at the total cost of #5,032,732,211.02 and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

“Since the advent of this administration road construction has been on the priority list of the government although the administration was confronted with the problems of insecurity, Covid-19 lockdown and global recession which impacted negatively on both the national and state economy.” He said.

He maintained that this administration bravely weathered the storm to construct over 30 township and Inter-town road projects among other completing demands, adding that, most of these roads have been completed while some few are at appreciable stages of completion.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner of Works, Engineer Umar Wakil Duddaye said the construction of the road will facilitated the easy movement of goods and services for socio-economic development of the area.

Earlier speaking on behalf of the contractor, Engineer Malam Kyari assured to complete the project in accordance with the specifications period of 18 months.

Also speaking, the Project Co-ordinator, Alhaji Musa Idi Jidawa said the construction of the 34 kilometers road from Jajere to Danchuwa will reduce the suffering of the people of the area and call on the contractor to speed up the work in accordance with the specifications period.

Alhaji Jidawa also urged the people of the benefitting areas to give there maximum support to the contractor with a view to complete the work on time.

In his welcome address, the Chairman care-taker Management Committee of Fune local government area, Alhaji Baba Goni Bade commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for construction this long a waiting road.

He said, if this road was constructed people of the three local government areas, Fune, Potiskum and Nangere will benefit from it and also it will boost the economic growth of the area.
