Group Hails Tinubu’s Oyo Forest Guard Approval, Warns Against Delays in Implementation

The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the recruitment of 1,000 Forest Guards for Oyo State, describing the move as a significant step toward strengthening internal security and expanding community-based protection across Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Chairman, Isaac Abrak, the group said the approval reflects the Federal Government’s recognition of the growing security threats within forested regions and the urgent need to bolster surveillance and intelligence-gathering capabilities nationwide.
The group noted that its position is consistent with an earlier call made on May 25, 2026, urging the Federal Government to extend the Forest Guard initiative beyond pilot arrangements and establish similar structures in all states of the federation.
While applauding the approval and ongoing efforts by security agencies to secure the release of kidnapped school teachers and children in Oyo State, NCYP cautioned that security policies must move beyond announcements to concrete implementation.
The organisation pointed to the case of Plateau State, where the Federal Government approved the recruitment of 1,000 Forest Guards following deadly attacks and worsening insecurity in rural communities. According to NCYP, despite the announcement made in January, the initiative has yet to become operational several months later, exposing a gap between policy approval and execution.
“Security decisions must be fully and rapidly implemented through recruitment, training and deployment. Delays undermine the purpose of such interventions and create opportunities for criminal elements to exploit existing security gaps,” the statement said.
NCYP expressed optimism that the recent appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security would strengthen coordination and accelerate the implementation of critical security initiatives across the country.
The group urged the Federal Government to establish and operationalise Forest Guard units in all states, arguing that a nationwide framework would improve surveillance of forest corridors, enhance intelligence gathering and provide stronger support for military and law enforcement operations.
It further recommended that recruitment into the Forest Guard programme should prioritize residents of host and forest communities, citing their familiarity with local terrain, movement patterns and hidden routes frequently exploited by criminal groups.
According to NCYP, a community-driven approach would deepen cooperation with security agencies and improve Nigeria’s capacity to prevent and respond to threats emerging from forested areas.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at enhancing national security, protecting lives and property, and restoring lasting peace across the country.

NHRC Demands Immediate Suspension, Arrest of Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Kill Order

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called for the immediate suspension and arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over alleged inflammatory remarks in a viral video ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun governorship election.
The Commission, led by the Executive Secretary, Chief Tony Ojukwu, said the remarks attributed to Fadahunsi amounted to incitement to murder, electoral violence and voter intimidation.
According to the NHRC, the senator allegedly instructed supporters to kill members of the Accord Party whenever they encountered them and warned that Accord members should not be allowed to vote, even if they possessed voter cards.
Ojukwu described the alleged statement as “a licence to kill”, warning that authorities must act before violence occurs.
“This is not politics. This is a licence to kill. A public officer who tells citizens to murder other citizens because of party affiliation must not be allowed to remain in office for one more day,” Ojukwu said.
The NHRC called on the Senate leadership to suspend Fadahunsi immediately, pending investigation, while urging the Police and DSS to arrest, investigate and prosecute him in accordance with the law.
The Commission also directed political party chairmen to instruct their members to refrain from hateful, inciting, intimidating or violent statements ahead of elections. It said candidates or party supporters who violate such directives should be reported to law enforcement for prosecution.
The NHRC urged residents of Osun State to remain peaceful and report threats to the appropriate authorities. It said it has established a situation room to document and respond to human-rights and electoral incidents during the election period.
The allegations against Senator Fadahunsi require urgent investigation and due process, particularly given the seriousness of the alleged call for violence.

Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim Abandoned by Fleeing Abductors in Plateau

Troops of Sector 3, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have rescued a 47-year-old woman, Mrs Pollina Alfred, who was kidnapped from her residence in Dong Village, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The rescue operation was conducted on August 11, 2026, following the abduction of the victim from her residence in the community.
A military source told Zagazola Makama that troops launched a search operation at about 7:00 a.m. and tracked the kidnappers to the Rafin Bauna general area in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
The troops subsequently came under pressure as they intensified their search, forcing the kidnappers to abandon the victim and flee into the surrounding area.
Mrs Alfred was found and rescued by the troops without further harm.
Following the rescue, the victim was debriefed by the security personnel before being reunited with her family.

Troops Foil Armed Berom Militias Moving To Attack Fulani Communities in Mangu, Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have engaged armed Berom militias following reports of their movement from Barkin Ladi Local Government Area to carry out attacks in some fulani communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A military source told Zagazola Makama that troops of Sub-Sector 81, reinforced by additional personnel from Headquarters Sector 8, mobilised to the general area at about 7:00 a.m. on August 11, 2026, following an advance report on the movement of the armed group.
The militias were reportedly moving towards Gwomgada, Dorong and Kaduno communities in Langai District of Mangu LGA.
The troops subsequently made contact with the armed group at Makera and Kaduno communities, leading to a firefight.
The engagement forced the militias to withdraw towards the general area of Jos East Local Government Area.
The troops are currently pursuing the fleeing group to deny them freedom of action and prevent further attacks on communities.
In a reinforcement effort, a detachment of the Special Forces has also been dispatched from Headquarters, Operation Enduring Peace, to support the troops operating in the area.
Further details on the operation are expected as the military continues its efforts to contain the threat and secure affected communities.
