Gunman kills four in Benue village attack

Atleast four persons were killed during a deadly attack by an armed militia in Afia, Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
Zagazola Makama was informed by intelligence sources that la suspected Tiv militia, popularly known as “Government,” allegedly armed with an AK-47 rifle, stormed his native village and began shooting at residents, moving from one village to another and killing victims at sight.
Troops of the Nigerian army in collaboration with the combined team of 40 operatives from Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Anyam Nyor, support units were immediately deployed to the area to track down the suspect.
Despite the heavy deployment, the suspect reportedly fled the scene and remains at large as of the time of filing this report.
“Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect have so far proved abortive, but the search operation is still ongoing,” intelligence sources said.
Security sources confirmed that four villagers lost their lives in the attack, and an investigation has been launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
Security forces have assured residents of Ukum and surrounding communities of intensified patrols and enhanced security to forestall further attacks.

LAUTECH student shot dead at sign-out party in Ogbomosho, 16 arrested

A student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, has been confirmed dead after being shot during a sign-out party, the Oyo State Police Command has said.
Zagazola report that the deceased, identified as Babalola Marvelous Ishola, was found lifeless by the roadside at about 5:38 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sources said that the discovery followed a report received about a male corpse lying unattended near the road.
A team of security operatives were mmediately dispatched to the scene, where the victim was identified through a search of his person.
The Dean of Student Affairs at LAUTECH also confirmed that Babalola was a student of the institution.
His body has been deposited at the morgue of the LAUTECH University Teaching Hospital for preservation.
Following the incident, police Monitoring Unit launched a sting operation which led to the arrest of sixteen suspects in connection with the shooting.
Police say investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the tragic killing.

Troops repel bandit attack in Katsina, rescue three kidnapped victims

The troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have foiled a bandit attack on Tashar Gemu Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area, neutralised one suspected bandit and rescued three kidnapped victims unhurt.
Zagazola learnt that the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 6:00 a.m., following credible intelligence received from residents that armed bandits riding on motorcycles were approaching the community.
The troops in collaboration with the police operatives, and members of the Community Watch Corps to repel the attack.
“On arrival, the team engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat. The troops pursued them towards Unguwar Gambo village and succeeded in neutralising one of the attackers,”said the sources.
Three individuals who had been kidnapped by the fleeing bandits were successfully rescued during the operation.
The victims were identified as Yahaya Murtala, Murwana Murtala, and Suleiman Abdullahi, all residents of Tashar Gemu village.

Mysterious death of family of four shocks Borno community

Residents of Chatta village in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State have been thrown into mourning following the sudden and mysterious death of a family of four in their home.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the deceased have been identified as Yakubu Samanja, his wife Esther Yakubu, and their two children, Amos Yakubu, and Maryamu Yakubu,
A relative of the family, Ibrahim Samanja, said that he made the shocking discovery when he visited the house early Tuesday morning and found the entire compound unusually silent.
“I came around 7 a.m. and knocked several times, but no one answered. I became worried and eventually had to force the door open. That was when I saw their lifeless bodies lying inside the room,” he said.
Following the discovery, police authorities and medical personnel visited the scene and confirmed all four family members dead.
The bodies were later evacuated to the General Hospital in Marama, where they were deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
People of the community described the incident as deeply troubling and said the family had shown no signs of illness or distress prior to their sudden death.
Preliminary checks at the scene revealed no visible signs of violence, but residents suspect the possibility of poisoning or carbon monoxide inhalation from a generator.
An investigation has commenced to determine the exact cause of death.
