Gunmen kill four policemen in Kogi, cart away rifles

Armed hoodlums have killed four policemen in separate attacks on police patrol teams in Kogi State, the Police Command has confirmed.
Zagazola learnt reliably that the first incident occurred on Sept. 21 at about 8:00 a.m. when about 20 armed men attacked personnel of 70 PMF Kabba attached to Isanlu Area Command at their pin-down patrol point along Ilafin-Odogbe Road, Yagba East LGA.
Sources said that ASP Umar Suleman and CPL Bitrus Isaac were shot dead in the attack, while the assailants carted away their two AK-47 rifles with 28 rounds of ammunition.
According to the sources, the corpses were evacuated to the General Hospital Mortuary, while joint security teams have intensified surveillance, bush combing and intelligence gathering to track down the attackers.
The sources said in a separate incident, hoodlums attacked 37 PMF personnel at Abugi outpost in Lokoja on the same day at about 11:30 a.m., killing Insp. Johnson David and Insp. Ehinola Oluwole on the spot.
The sources added that the assailants also carted away their service rifles a T06 rifle and an AK-47 with 30 rounds each while a passerby, identified as Isah Gilad, was killed during the attack.
The spurces said the corpses were deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for autopsy, while all police formations in the state had been placed on red alert and deployed at strategic positions to counter further attacks.
