HARUNA MUSA MSHELIA: The sad story of Hawul/Askira/Uba Federal Constituency in Borno

By: Balami Lazarus

I will say it loud and clear that it is unfortunate for the people of Hawul/ Askira Uba federal constituency in Borno state.  For many years since the return of democracy in Nigeria, the stories emanating from that part of the Nigerian constituency were of laughter and pains. Elected representatives, past and present were given the political opportunities under collective mandate of votes to represent their people in order to usher in development and other social amenities to their people. But Hawul/ Askira Uba is still growling under the present membership.

It is rather unfortunate that still under Hon. (Dr) Haruna Musa Mshelia whose presence in the green chamber is of absent representation.    In this write- up therefore, I will not hide under any guise of the English language be it figure of speech, phrase, parable or proverb, I will tell Representative Haruna Mshelia that in my own opinion,  he has politically failed his people and has also disappointed them making them a laughing stock more than before in terms of social infrastructure.

I have absolutely nothing personal against Dr. Haruna as a person but being an elected member of the National Assembly and sitting in the Green Chamber as representing Hawul/ Askira Uba where incidentally I came from informed my vexation, I am then calling on the attention of Musa as representative of his people to tell him point- blank that; he (Hon. (Dr) Haruna Musa Mshelia) has failed as our elected member for his inability to attract development to Hawul/ Askira Uba.

I tried to find a better way to excuse some of his failures but could not find any. This has put me in the lines of thousands of our people who are calling on him not to try to venture out for what is awaiting him at the campaign ground as our people are waiting to tell him their stories in the manner they are well known for. He is not a worthy politician neither a man of the people rather an opportunist marking time for his final political exit.

I read a story where the lawmaker had claimed to have given food and nonfood items to his constituency worth 30 tons of truck load allegedly procured and shared to victims of insurgency across Hawul and Askira/Uba local governments where he is representing. According to that story, which goodwill has been done since 2019 to date? Well, I would not want to say much on this but our people are angry with some politically farfetched policies. I hope he will have time to explain this to many of them who are waiting for him to do so.

The other time I was ashamed and like most people I spoke with, a Very Embarrassing situation to Hon.  Dr.  Haruna Mshelia and his Constituency, there is no consciousness on the part of the Legislature, Imagine the kind of words the Speaker used on the Floor of the house, on this Legislature, that is he is not a good Legislature and imagine the chief Whip and the house leader calling him Naked for not observing the house protocols of dressing. Just imagine how they described the kind of clothes he wears to the house sitting; at least he should have respected the sit and his Constituency. This to me is a clear case of misrepresentation. We have many of them and we must do the needful in 2023, even if APC insists on retaining such legislatures the electorates can go for other options. 2023 we must have self-consciousness and Vote wisely.

The works of Mr. James Bwala on Honourable Mukhtari Aliyu Betra was full of what is expected of an elected politician for his people. What have Haruna to show? For me, the write up put by Hon. Inuwa Bwala on Haruna Musa Mshelia was a scram under the hood of defense.  Similarly, the truck load of complaints and allegations against Hon. Mshelia from his people who are yearning for federal presence through him is enough for him to hide his face in shame because he is an unproductive and voiceless representative.
