Herder kills farmer in Gubio over grazing dispute

A teenage farmer has been killed following a clash with a herder in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.

Zagazola gathered that the incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 in Jatori village.

Sources stated that the herder allegedly trespassed into the millet and beans farm of the deceased, identified as 18-year-old Isaye Kundili, with his cattle.

An altercation ensued when the young farmer attempted to chase the herd away, during which the herder shot him in the chest with a bow and arrow before fleeing the scene.

The victim was rushed to the Primary Health Care Centre, Gubio, where he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment. His body was later released to relatives for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Police said efforts were ongoing to trace and arrest the fleeing suspect in collaboration with the herders’ union.

NAF neutralises 32 insurgents after attack on Banki that claimed two soldier, civilian

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has neutralised 32 Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents following a coordinated night attack on Banki, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Zagazola gathered that the attack, which occurred on Sept. 18 at about 10:15 p.m., targeted Bula Yobe Forward Operating Base (FOB), 152 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, and the Divisional Police Headquarters in Banki.

Two soldiers and a nine-year-old boy, identified as Ismail Abubakar, were killed during the assault, while three military vehicles were set ablaze by the terrorists.

According to sources, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai was tasked after ground troops in Bula Yobe and Banki came under heavy attack.

An Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, Grey Raptor, was deployed to track the movement of the insurgents after withdrew northwards from Banki.

Guided by the ISR feed, two A-29 Super Tucano aircraft carried out three successive air interdiction passes, engaging terrorists moving along a track and others gathered at two separate assembly points with logistics.

The coordinated strikes neutralised more than 25 insurgents in the assembly areas and others on the move, bringing the total figure to 32.

The bodies of the two fallen soldiers were evacuated to the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, while that of the minor was released to relatives for burial in line with Islamic rites.

To stabilise the area, additional reinforcements, have been deployed to Banki and its environs.

The Nigerian Army troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA in collaboration with the police repelled a bandit attack on Soro Daya village in Kankia Local Government Area.

Zagazola learn that the incident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 19 when suspected bandits invaded the village.

The troops were promptly mobilized to the scene. On reaching Soro Daya junction, the team was confronted by the hoodlums, leading to a heavy gun duel.

“The bandits damaged the front tyre and side glasses of a police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol vehicle before retreating into the forest.

“One female victim, Nabiha Mani, aged 15, was rescued with a gunshot wound on her thigh. She was rushed to the Comprehensive Health Centre in Matazu for treatment and later referred to the Orthopaedic Hospital, Katsina, for further medical attention,” said the sources.

Burglars break into Polaris Bank in Awka, cart away money

Business activities were disrupted on Thursday at the Polaris Bank branch in Amenyi, Awka, Anambra State, following a burglary in which thieves broke into the bank and stole an unspecified amount of money from the vault.

Zagazola learnt that the incident was discovered by the branch manager, Mrs. Okpara Ugoo Chiaka of No. 21 Nnosike Akabugo Street, Nodu, Awka, when she arrived at the bank at about 7:30 a.m. to commence daily operations.

On arrival, she found that the banking hall, offices, and vault had been broken into and thoroughly ransacked, with cash missing from the strong room.

The development has caused anxiety among customers and staff, as the exact amount of money stolen has not yet been disclosed.

Meanwhile, sources close to the bank said measures are being taken to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the burglary while internal investigations are ongoing.

The sources added that police were invited to investigate.
