I Willingly Decided To Step Aside For The Sake Of My People – Hon. SULE KWASAU

Politics and politicking is all about interest in elective offices to sincerely serve the people of one’s constituency or to occupy the highest office in the land.

Politicians the world over are known to be charismatic and convincing in  their antics of politicking and hardly they give up , withdraw or step aside for their opponents’ who are aspiring for the same office of interest. They only do that on the conditions of: who gets what and who takes what?

I have met a politician gentleman who decided to step aside twice in the business of seeking for political office. Barrister Sule Kwasau is that politician who has been in the business for sometime.  In 2018, this politician gentleman stepped aside for his opponent while on the road to winning the membership of Kaduna State House of Assembly Zonkwa constituency  under the PDP platform , but he stepped aside at the eleventh hour.

Again in 2022, at the peak of the PDP primaries elections held recently, Hon. Sule  bowed out from the primaries given ample chance for his political opponent who is in the same party, aspiring for the same position. Why Hon. Kwasau did what he did?  He said, political stakeholders and community leaders advice that “one of ‘us should willingly step aside”  since we are from the same ward ( Gidan Jatat) of the same community. “They were also of the opinion that it is not politically healthy for the primaries and our party considering the PDP chances for winning the State House of Assembly elections in 2023” he said..

Hon. Kwasau said that there were sentiments which were not religious but emotionally based. More so,” I willingly decided to stepped aside for the sake of my people because the way a driver sees the road is quite different from the way the passengers sees’ it. And for me as the driver, the well-being of my people is worth more than my political ambitions”, he concluded.

The good thing about this political moves by Hon. Kwasau , reminds me of Ahaji Waziri Ibrahim the founder of Great Nigeria People’s. Party (GNPP) who was one time presidential candidate, whose watch word was  “politics without bitterness”.  Therefore, it is common in the political net , there is no permanent enemy but permanent interest.
