INEC declares Buni as winner of Yobe governorship election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Umaru Pate, announced the result in Damaturu on Sunday.
Pate said that Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 317,113 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Alhaji Sherif Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 124, 259 votes.
“That Buni Mai Mala of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner of the election, and returned elected,” he said.
Pate, also the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Kashere in Gombe, said Alhaji Garba Umar of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) came a distant third with 14,246 votes, while Arabi Mohammed of the Action Alliance (AA) polled 3,260.
He said the number of registered voters was 1,485,141, while the number of total accredited voters was 459,492, saying that the number of valid votes was 444,567, while the number of rejected votes was 13,214 and the total votes cast wss 457,781.

The Yobe state government has vowed to work tirelessly on different ways and means of generating local resources to complement what the state is being received from the federation account.
The government said in addition, the state has so many solid minerals deposited under the ground to further boost its efforts at making life easy for its citizens.
The state Commissioner of Commerce, Industry, Tourism, and Solid Minerals, Alhaji Kaigama Umar, disclosed this when he opened tender bids for consultancy services in respect of the production of a comprehensive road map to develop the solid minerals in the state.
He maintained that the government is taking remarkable steps and inviting these companies to have a comprehensive road map, and at the end of the day, illegal mining will be stopped.
According to him, the ministry will submit the bid documents to a technical session to critically look at it, analyze it, and send it to the Bureau on public procurement for final betting.
Kaigama revealed that five companies indicated their interest in the bid, and all of them responded, which include Matlock Nigeria and Partners Ltd, Ahila Technology Ltd, Focus Consult Ltd, Dotnet Technology Ltd, and Pathways Mapping, respectively.

VP Shettima Arrives In Maiduguri On Condolence Visit To Families Of Slain Soldiers

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on a condolence visit to the families of soldiers who lost their lives during a terrorist attack in Damboa.
The Vice President is in Maiduguri to extend the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government to the families of the fallen soldiers and to honour their ultimate sacrifice.
The soldiers who died during the attack in Damboa, Borno State, paid the ultimate sacrifice while successfully repelling an onslaught that resulted in the neutralisation of 34 terrorists at a Forward Operating Base in Sabon Gari.
In the wake of the tragic event, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had called for a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident and ensure it serves as a valuable lesson to prevent similar occurrences.
The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, saying their sacrifice in defending the nation will forever be honoured and remembered.
President Tinubu also commended the armed forces for their swift and decisive response, particularly the air component, in launching effective retaliatory strikes.
The targeted air raids resulted in the significant neutralisation of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to flee.
During his visit to Maiduguri, the Vice President will, at the instance of the President, also pay a condolence visit to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum.
On the delegation of the Vice President are federal lawmakers from the state, including Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (Borno Central), Hon. Abdulkadir Rahis (Maiduguri Metropolitan Federal Constituency), Hon. Usman Zannah (Kaga/Magumeri/Gubio Federal Constituency), as well as the Minister of Transportation, Hon. AjiKolo Ali Gujja, and a prominent politician, Sen. Saidu Alkali, among others.
On arrival, the Vice President was received at the Maiduguri International Airport by the Borno State Governor, the Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur; Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu; Special Adviser to the President on Health, Dr Salma Anas-Kolo; Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North, Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori.
