Fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a deadly attack early Monday morning on a military position in Chetima Wango, located in Niger’s Diffa region.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the assault resulted in the death of at least one soldier from the Nigerien Defense and Security Forces (FDS), while seven others sustained injuries. Additionally, three soldiers remain missing following the attack.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident within the same area, armed assailants abducted multiple civilians from the village of Loumbouram. The number of kidnapped individuals has yet to be confirmed.

The Diffa region, which borders Nigeria’s insurgency-hit Lake Chad Basin, has witnessed repeated attacks by ISWAP militants in recent months.

The group continues to target military positions, villages, and local security forces, exacerbating instability in the region.
