In a move to support his constituents during the ongoing nationwide protests, Hon. Ahmed Satomi, the House of Representatives Member representing Jere Federal Constituency of Borno State, has launched a large-scale distribution of essential agricultural inputs and food items.
The exercise, which is being carried out in two phases, began on Monday with the distribution of 1,650 bags of 50kg NPK fertilizer to farmers, including people with disabilities (PWDs), across the 12 Wards in Jere Constituency. In addition to the fertilizer, the lawmaker also provided rice to the beneficiaries.
Speaking to journalists, Hon. Satomi explained that the gesture is a short-term intervention to support his constituents amid the current economic challenges. He commended the efforts of Governor Babagana Zulum, the security agencies, and other stakeholders for restoring peace and stability in the volatile Jere Constituency.
“As the representative of Jere Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, I have decided to continue supporting my people with the resources available to me. This is a routine event, and the government is encouraging all members of the National Assembly to provide relief to their constituents during this difficult time,” Satomi said.
The lawmaker emphasized that the beneficiaries were carefully selected without any ethnic, political, or religious biases, ensuring that the youth, women, the elderly, and the less privileged were all included in the distribution.
The second phase of the initiative, known as the “Community Food Outreach” (CFO), is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. This phase will specifically target the less privileged members of the community, with the involvement of local stakeholders, such as religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community associations.
Satomi urged his fellow lawmakers to emulate this initiative in their respective constituencies, stating that addressing the needs of the people is a crucial responsibility for elected representatives.
The beneficiaries, including farmers and a person with a disability, expressed their gratitude to Hon. Satomi for the timely and valuable support, which they believe will significantly improve their livelihoods and agricultural productivity.
