JOS: Death Mount From Riyom to Rukuba road

By: James Bwala

JOS, the Plateau State Capital in North Central Nigeria has been a religious earthquake waiting to erupt. For whatever reasons only known to those tormentors of trouble lined and perfectly arranged on the bricks of religious intolerance. Whether or not the government in the past or present or certain individuals in the past or present are still looking for a way to achieve their evil deeds by the sacrifice of blood from the innocent Nigerians both Christians and Muslims is only known to God Almighty, who is going to judge the dark deeds of men.

At the beginning of this year 2021, there was some concern about Jos, the Plateau state capital, which had enjoyed peace for almost seven years. This was since the beginning of this administration although not totally peaceful but to a certain level of credit. However, attacks of monumental history began to raise their ugly head on the Plateau.

From Riyom to Rukuba road innocent blood has cried to the heavens with Christians and Muslims blaming each other over the death of the innocents Nigerians, who knows nothing about the quarrels that informed this dreaded act of sniffing live out of the human neither of the party had the ability create or help the creator in the time of his molding lives. I do not want to go into details of accounts or refresh painful memories from my writings since the beginning of this year. Not that the year was evil, it remains a blissful year but for the evil of men trying to help God in killing his created being. This they (the killers) will pay as painful as they have taken.

Saturday, August 24, 2021, was yet another good day that the Lord God has given to all His creation to live and to be happy. But along the Rukuba road on the Plateau evil stood. Men who desire the blood of the innocent travelers want those blood spilled and they have it. Now, what do they gain and how happy are they that those they killed are innocent? Travelers should never be a party to your anger because you too are travelers in this world. No one will remain, therefore the issues of judgment should be the concern of all Christians and Muslims alike.

I loved the exultation given at the graveside of the 25 innocent souls by an Imam. If both Christians and Muslims actually have this understanding we all will have a Nigeria of our dreams. The land is vast for everyone to play his or her role in this journey we all embarked on. No one will fight for God and succeed; therefore, men ought to all God to forget to fight for them that is scriptural.

The statements issued by the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Supreme Council of Islamic affairs over these unfortunate and condemnable acts to a fair mind is truthfully the kind of encouragement we need as citizens of this great Country. Both religious arrowheads have shown displeasure and calls for action, which I hope Nigerians will give this government a chance to demonstrate its stand by bringing those arrested and those going to be arrested over this unfortunate situation to book.

A quote from CAN reads: “The leadership of CAN totally condemns these attacks and pleads with security agents to ensure normalcy is restored. Every human life is precious and the unlawful killing of any human being, regardless of their identity and affiliation, is unacceptable.

And a quote from the NSCIA reads: “In the spirit of the Islamic injunction, “O you who have believed! If some transgressors bring you news (that requires taking action), verify it carefully (before you believe and act upon it), lest you harm a people in ignorance and then become regretful for what you have done” (Qur’an 49:6), we re-assure all peace-loving individuals and groups that appropriate actions would be taken subsequent to a thorough investigation.

I believe this represents the heart of our religious body if they are truly sincere in the pursuit of peace and moving towards peaceful coexistence. For those killed in Riyom and the 25 killed along Rukuba road in Jos, we pray for the repose of their souls and wish them Firdausi, and for the perpetrators of this evil we cry for justice believing that justice shall be served.
