Kashim Shettima: Victory at the end
Kashim Shettima: Victory at the end
By: James Bwala
It is victory at the end. The long time ambition of former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is materializing. By the pronouncement earlier today of his victory to lead the All Progressive Congress, APC in the 2023 general elections, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is indeed a good material and a sellable one to all Nigerians.
This is also a victory for the former Borno state governor, Senator Kashim Shettima. It has again proved that the Senator Representing Borno state at the hollow Chamber of Nigeria’s highest law making body is worth his onions. My last piece before the APC primaries, which I caption “Lecturer in the studio” gave me the understanding that Kashim Shettima is an orange of his class. I have severally reported on how he brought in the celebrated Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum to power making him a king maker with difference in Borno politics.
Today, the people of Borno state and indeed Nigerians are celebrating governor Zulum. The recent recognition he keeps piling as a worthy governor came a few days ago by a worthy newspaper organization, The Champion. Indeed, Zulum is a champion in governance and this has spoken well in the choices the former Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima makes for Borno state.
Indeed, he chose Zulum not only for Borno state but for the rest of the northeast state and Nigeria at large. When he decided to stand behind the Jagaban, Kashim Shettima was one hundred percent in the affirmative that his choice in whatever way Nigerians looked at it was the best choice for the time. He keeps reminding Nigerians at every selling point that we are in the knowledge driven economy and the situation does not need physical strength only but experience, exposure and elusive mind which the product he is selling to Nigeria possesses.

In the last minutes, his statements at the studio with Seun came under nails and hammer, but Kashim Shettima, as oratory as he is, was focused and mathematically detailed with words and historic facts, which I always said can never be taken from him. The results of the outing on Tuesday at APC Primaries from the boxes was crystal clear of the narration and messages Kashim Shettima had been passing to those who have an ear to hear.
It was a sound victory to all those who stood by the Jagaban but it was a big victory for Senator Kashim Shettima as he would have been ‘the devil on the cross’. In the words of Ngugi Wa Thiong’o, the noble literary guru should have failed to deliver as he adopted many strategies and political monopolistic approaches to beat other gladiators in the game.
When I saw other aspirants giving way, I recalled what Kashim Shettima did in 2019. The strategy he adopted in bringing Professor Babagana Umara Zulum to power. When I saw the first, second and third aspirant. I concluded. The ticket has come to stay in Tinubu’s camp. My conclusion was right in the end and it was not Tinubu that was happier but Borno’s king maker and the orator for the oracle, Kashim Shettima.
