Kashmir: Pakistani Envoy Appeals for UN Intervention
By: Michael Mike
The High Commissioner of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Nigeria, Mr Sohail Ahmad Khan has alleged continuous militarization of disputed State of Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as the world’s most militarized zone and the largest prison on earth.
The envoy in a statement on Sunday to commemorate the Kashmir Solidarity Day, called on the United Nations and it’s relevant Human Rights machinery, Civil Society Organisations, Media Houses and other defenders of Human Rights to fulfill their obligations towards besieged Kashmiris by playing their part to end the rule of tyranny and oppression.
The statement read: “Kashmir Solidarity Day serves as an annual reminder of the prolonged conflict in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where the struggle for self-determination has left an indelible mark on the lives of innocent Kashmiris.
“Multiple UN Resolutions unambiguously declare that the final disposition of the State of Jammu and Kashmir will be made in accordance with the will of the people expressed through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite conducted under the auspices of the United Nations. Numerous international, UN organisations as well as UN Special Rapporteurs have reported gross human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Media and press is under tremendous pressure by Indian Government especially in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir which is evident from India’s ranking of 161 out of 180 countries as per 2023 World Press Freedom.”
He alleged that: “Jammu and Kashmir has been converted into world’s most militarized zone and the largest prison on earth.”
The envoy said: “Pakistan stands firm with Kashmiri brothers and sisters and will continue to provide unwavering diplomatic support. Pakistan demands that International community including United Nations and it’s relevant Human Rights Machinery, Civil Society Organisations, Media Houses and other defenders of Human Rights to fulfill their obligations towards besieged Kashmiris by playing their part to end the rule of tyranny and oppression.”

Zulum Condemns Maiduguri Explosion, Calls for Calm, Vigilance in Worship, Public Places
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has condemned in the strongest terms the explosion that occurred in some parts of the metropolis on Monday evening.
Zulum, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, described the attack as despicable, cruel, and cowardly, targeting innocent people in the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dauda Iliya, called for increased vigilance and heightened security measures, particularly in places of worship, as the festive period beckons.
“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” said Zulum.
He added, “The recent surge in attacks is not unconnected with intense military operations in the Sambisa forest and other hideouts of the insurgents.
The Governor, therefore, assured people of the state that the military and other security agencies are on top of the situation, as adequate measures have been taken to forestall any security breach in Maiduguri and the entire state.
He called on residents to remain calm, go about their usual activities, and report any suspicious movement or activity to security agencies.
