Katsina Gov.t bans vigilante group ‘Yan Sa Kai’

The Katsina State Government has banned the activities of a vigilante group ’Yan Sa Kai Volunteer Group’ for “overzealous criminal activities’’ leading to extrajudicial killings of innocent persons and looting of properties.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Katsina, said the ban is with immediate effect.

There has been outrage over the jungle justice approach of the group across Katsina under the guise of fighting banditry and terrorism.

The statement reads: ‘’The Katsina State Government only recognises the activities of Vigilante group, which is under the supervision, control and monitoring of the Police, other security agencies and traditional institutions.

‘’Henceforth, arrested suspects should be handed over to the police or any security agency for proper investigation and action where necessary. Nobody should take the law into his hands, under whatever cover’’.
