Kyari: A Reluctant Bride in the Race.

I was about shutting down when a news flash on the television caught my attention. It was about yet another friend and brother, Senator Abubajar Kyari, the Senator representing Northern Senatorial District in Borno state.
The news has it that, the two time Senator, former Commissioner and former Chief of Staff to former Governor Kashim Shettima has thrown his hat into the ring, seeking for the position of the Deputy National Chairman if the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the firth coming National Convention of the party, come March 26th.
I have not seen him or spoken with him for a very long time, but knowing his pedigree in leadership and performance in politics, I was excited with the news.I called a friend who confirmed the development to me and my initial fears for the APC began to abate, seeing that, even in the ensuing confusion, the party seems to be getting it right afterall.
The question so many people may be asking, us perhaps, why Abubakar Kyari could abandon the lucre of the Red Chamber, to the rather frugal office of a party official.
Knowing who he is, having grown up in luxury, he is more interested in salvaging the sinking ship along with others, than he is in the flamboyance associated with being a Senator

Under the consensus arrangement, which is the likely approach to the convention, I see Kyari coming into office, along with his vast political reservoir.
And if what I have seen around him and watched him do on the floor of the Senate is anything to go by, Kyari could as well pass as the right peg in the right hole, even as I see him attracting a lot of goodwill to the APC
When I took over from him as the commissioner for Information years back, I found his records flawless, and I was not surprised that he went on to become the Chief of Staff to Governor Kashim Shettima then.
His ascendance as a Senator was virtually seamless, as all politics in Northern Borno revolve around his personality. His house was a virtual consulate to people from Northern Borno, who ran to Maiduguri for everything under the sun.
One could mistake his house for a market place, whether he is around or not, and his office remains the boardroom where most political decision are taken
Habu Kyari, as he is fondly called has paid his dues, so to say, in the politics of Borno and leaving the Red Chambers to the more hectic role of Deputy National Chairman befits his roles, as mediator in most political fallouts, even in the Senate.
Abubakar Kyari, is perhaps best suited to fly Borno’s flag in the National Working Committee of the APC, given his libero roles in the politics of the region.
I am very confident that he will not only make the difference, but will be perfect filler, in the forthcoming National Working Committee which promises to be robust and highly intellectually studied.
Those who pushed him into the race must have adequate knowledge of his capabilities and understand the complexities if the politics of 2023 and beyond. And I am sure, that, in the fullness of time, their choice shall be vindicated.
