Lagos Collapsed Building: Death toll now 23 as emergency workers rescue more

A staff of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, who identify himself as Mr. Adeyemi on Wednesday said more corpses are being recovered from the rubbles in the Lagos Collapsed Building at Ikoyi.

According to him, the number as at morning was 20 but that number has increased this afternoon.

Although he did not disclose how many corpses were recovered, he said he was not in position to brief the press on that, however he described the situation as sad.

“I think this is the worse we have experience in recent years. We still have more people under the rubbles. I wouldn’t know how many.” He said.

NEMA officials who were also at the site declined to speak to newsmen on the situation this afternoon.

An official told newsmen that people are sad and they are working to see to the rescue of many people believed to still be underground.

Also a survivor, who identify himself as John Johnson told newsmen that he went out to buy food that was when the incident happened and he was saved.

According to him, more people are still underneath the building as they were many labourers that are working in the site.

Journalists also said they saw about three corpses being brought out and another believed to still be alive being taken to a waiting ambulance on Wednesday afternoon.
