A 29-year-old man, Billclintin Asoshi, was injured during an attack on Sabon Pegi community in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba.
Sources told Zagazola that the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday when about 10 suspected youths invaded the area.
They said the attackers first stormed the residence of one Hosea Sambo, where they demolished his fence, cut down a mango tree, and shattered his windows with stones and sticks. Sambo, however, managed to escape through the back door.
According to them, three of the attackers later moved to the residence of Asoshi Akafyi, where they were cutting down a neem tree opposite his house.
“In the process, his son, Billclintin Asoshi, came out to ask who was cutting the tree with a chainsaw. One of the attackers struck him with a cutlass on the shoulder,” a community leader said.
The victim was rushed to a private hospital in Ibi, where he was treated and later discharged.
Sources said one of the attackers was identified as Alepu Likita, a resident of the same community, while others fled the scene.
An emergency security meeting with stakeholders in the area has since been convened, while efforts are ongoing within the community to ensure the culprits are apprehended.
The situation was said to be under close watch by security agencies.
