The people of Mandagirau community in Biu local government area of Borno state have expressed joy in the way and manner the Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has taken towards the distribution of government palliatives to cushion the hardship being experienced by the people.
Recall that Zulum said that while the federal government provided for 100,000 households, his administration is providing for an additional 300,000 households to make a total of 400,000 households. He explained that Borno’s case is peculiar as some areas were devastated by the insurgency and returnees were yet to have full access to their farmlands, hence the need to continue supporting them.

Speaking through their representative, Alhaji Yusuf Adamu, the people said these are the best of times for them when the government takes deliberate steps to ensure equity and justice are done in the distribution of the ongoing palliatives following the removal of the oil subsidy. According to Yusuf Adamu, the people from the community who constantly brief him on the ongoings said they are happy with the sincerity of the government.
“The governor assigns his deputy, Alhaji Usman Kadafur, and members of the state assembly who are leading the distribution efforts in southern Borno and in my local government area, with particular view on my community, Mandaragirau. During the distribution of food and non-food items, the deputy governor ensures that irrespective of party affiliation, religion, or strangers living among our people, every household in that community gets the palliatives.
“He ensures that rice and semolina are distributed according to units per household in the most pragmatic way so that our people feel the touch of government presence. In this time of hunger, the best that government can do for its own people is to step forward to show them love through such initiative and by proving that government is not just for a particular people, religion, or tribe. In my community, as you know, we have both the major religions as well as some who are still practicing the traditional religion. We have our own people; we have the Chibok and other tribes also living in that community.
“The deputy governor, Alhaji Usman Kadafur, is a practical person.” He is carrying out this assignment with all sincerity of purpose, and the reports from our people are heartwarming. They have continued to praise the manner in which the palliatives are being distributed, as many households have reported back to stakeholders how they were able to receive the stimulus without much stress because the deputy governor makes sure the eye of the government is on everything being done during the distribution.” Adamu said.
According to him, the governor has also distributed houses to the people whose houses have been affected by storms, burned down, or destroyed by the activities of insurgents operating in the area. Given the specific case with the Mandaragirau community, he said the government of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum allocated one hundred and two-bedroom apartments to the community.
“This assignment was also carried out under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Kadafur. The deputy governor and the members of the House of Assembly who worked to ensure equitable distribution of the housing units left indelible footprints for our people. Those who call to show appreciation are saying that we should extend our heartfelt appreciation to the governor, his deputy, and the members of the House of Assembly representing them.” Hon. Yusuf Adamu said
