A police officer sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a mob while transporting recovered hard drugs to the station in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Sources informed Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Polo Roundabout, where two police officers from ‘C’ Division had gone to arrest a suspect found in possession of hard drugs following credible intelligence.
According to sources, the suspect fled upon sighting the officers, abandoning a bag containing hard drugs and other substances suspected to be Indian hemp. He escaped into the Jenta Adamu area of Jos North LGA.
Shortly after, the suspect reportedly returned with a group of motorcycle riders and attacked the officers, who were already on their way to the station with the recovered exhibits.
During the assault, one of the officers, Inspector Ikale Muhammed, sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to Bingham University Teaching Hospital for medical attention. A Bajaj Boxer motorcycle was recovered at the scene.
Police reinforcements were deployed to the area, and efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the attackers.
