National chairmanship: I will consult top decision makers in APC – Senator George Akume
The Minister for Special Duties and former governor of Benue state, Senator George Akumeon Tuesday said he will consult with the top decision makers in the ruling party on his next move following a clarion call by All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Campaign Organisation (AFANCCO) who paid the miniter a courtesy call in Abuja.
AFANCCO said it resolve to be a veritable catalyst in the conveyance of the modest wishes of the people for the adoption and subsequent election of their choice, Sen. George Akume as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Africa’s largest political party, in the forthcoming National Convention of the great party.
Speaking during the visit, the able Chairman of AFANCCO, Mr. Ogochukwu Ezeaku, who is also the Chairman of I Stand with Buhari Organization and a Member of the Presidential Campaign Council, pointed out that “APC as the ruling party and Nigeria as a whole, needed continuity and sustenance of the party’s legacy activities.”
According to him, “only someone with well-established legacies and track-record in public service, government affairs and administrative excellence in the mould of Senator Dr. George Akume, is capable of achieving this feat. “
Also speaking the Director General of AFANCCO, Chief Pascal Ojim, Member, Presidential Campaign Council, Member, APC Merger Committee and SA to the former National Chairman, expressed the collective wish of the mass majority of concerned stakeholders and of Nigerians, for Sen. Dr. Akume to run for election as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, a party he rightly described as the fastest growing party in Black Africa.
He said, “Sen. Dr. George Akume was by many miles, the most qualified for the position, as a result of his incomparable administrative experience as Governor, Senator and Minister, among other positions he has held, which has provided him with rich knowledge and extensive experience in the expert management of public organizations, especially “at this most trying critical and tempestuous moment of our national voyage.”

While speaking, the National Women Leader of AFANCCO, Ambassador Fatima Adams, who is also the National Coordinator, Women for Buhari and Osinbajo, Member, Presidential Campaign Council and former Women Leader, ANPP FCT and APN, FCT and North Central Zone, noted that “women and all well-meaning people across the country were in support of Sen. Dr. George Akume’s candidate for Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.
She cited numerous instances of his immense capacity to communicate across diverse lines, “his deep understanding of administration, his far-reaching network of human and non-human resources and his diplomatic ability which he has deployed to overcome daunting challenges in the past and still doing so in the present. She also identified as a key factor, his fatherly nature that welcomes all and simultaneously instills the strong leadership atmosphere needed for organizational success.”
Responding, Dr. George Akume, thanked AFANCCO for its thoughtfulness and concern for the wellbeing of the party and the nation at large, stressing that nation building was a collective task for all, and highlighting the successes recorded by the Buhari Administration in various sectors of the economy.
He warmly welcomed the resolve of AFANCCO to play significant roles in actualizing the election of the right leader for the ruling All Progressives Congress, and appreciated the organization’s selfless activities in saddling itself with the task of identifying and conveying the wishes of the people, stating that he was indeed, grateful for being chosen by well-wishers to serve as APC National Chairman.
“I promised to consult the party’s top decision maker and final authority, to which I am obligated, and will subsequently relay response to well-wishers and to AFANCCO, in due course.” The Minister said.
